Sita Jamieson and Friends

Sita Jamieson, is a musician, singer, and recording artist. She has performed with talented musicians such as Krishna Das, Ram Das, and Baghavan Das.

As a native of Ireland, her voice comes out of her Celtic roots. Originally, her chanting was inspired by the Hindu tradition of Kirtan, but she now brings all the world's chanting and singing traditions to her audiences. She has been leading chanting in the US for the past 30+ years, and also in Singapore, Ubud, Bali and India.

Sita was first introduced to devotional chanting in the mid-1980s when she lived for five years at the Lama Foundation, north of Questa. The interfaith community prides itself on nourishing the rituals and traditions of the world’s great spiritual practices. It was here that Sita first became immersed in devotional singing, including kirtan — a Hindu form of chanting that often uses call and response. Sita also began frequenting the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram and she soon was leading chanting at the ashram, and realized that she had found a passion.

Sita belives, “There’s a harmonizing quality about chanting. It’s very unifying. It enlivens and calms. Because of the repetition it has a calming effect on the brain. It enlivens the cells of the body. People feel much more connected with the other people in the room and also to the universe because it breaks down this sense of me in here and the world out there … being able to sit there and sing your heart out makes you feel good.”
